"The themes of fun, sexuality, optimism, a loosening of morals, freedom from previous constraints, exotic use of color, filled the air in the society of the Roaring Twenties that gave birth to Art Deco are the same kinds of traits that are attributed to red headed women."
"Art Deco flourished in the Jazz age of the roaring twenties. “The Roaring Twenties ushered in a spirit of frivolity, exotic luxury, wild fun, and a sense of freedom and hopefulness. There was a sense of excitement and expectancy in the air, a time of anticipating a future filled with promise. And it was during this hustle and bustle of activity that the Art Deco style began to emerge.”

Marion Roach in her book about red heads (The Roots of Desire) says that "According to stereotypes red hair is a female marker of sexual ability. In fact, redheaded women are represented as the most ravishing women in art. All those flowing tresses in Maxfield Parrish's paintings, in the work of Dante Rossetti and the pre-Raphaelites, (and Art Deco period as well) indicate a delicate, uncontrollable beauty that has a unique appeal."
“In instance after instance, in paintings, mythology and literature, of redheaded women are portrayed as more wild, difficult, sexually rapacious, and even, in an ancient echo to the modern science story, extraordinarily resistant to authority.”
(Red-haired men, conversely, are generally considered wimpy and unattractive.)
